Northern Ireland was stubborn, and they beat Scotland 1-0 at Hampden Park, making Scott McTominay and his team very upset.
Northern Ireland won their first game against Scotland since 1983. It was also their first win in Glasgow in fifty years.
It was 83% of the time that the home team had the ball, but even though they had more shots on goal, they rarely created any real quality chances.
At the start of the game, McTominay drove at the Northern Ireland defense and was tackled by Paddy McNair, who also graduated from the United school.
He did have a rare chance to show what he could do when he got a free kick, but his shot hit the wall and went out of play.
A disciplined Northern Irish back five made it hard for the United player to do much for the rest of the half.
In the 43rd minute, he did have a long shot that went just wide of Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s goal.
Throughout the second half, the United midfielder looked increasingly irritated as he got into several fights with Trai Hume, the very good Northern Irish defender.
Sofascore gave McTominay a good score of 7.2, and he was very good with the ball, finishing 32 of the 35 passes he made.
The midfielder had 46 touches, which isn’t very good since his team had so much of the ball. He came and went during the game.
Unfortunately for the 27-year-old, he had a bad night in front of goal. He had two shots stopped and none of them went in.
In terms of ground duels, he was excellent; he won all six of them.
The United player also made both of his dribble tries in the first half.
But even though he was captain at the end of the night, boos could be heard throughout Hampden Park as Northern Ireland held on for a famous win.
As they get ready for the start of their Euro 2024 journey, Scotland will have to wait until June to make up for this loss.
When the Red Devils beat Brentford 2-0 in October, McTominay scored two goals that sealed the win. He will want to get back on track and play as big of a role on Saturday.
