Sofyan Amrabat, a player for Manchester United, played well for Morocco in their 1-1 draw with DR Congo in the African Cup of Nations.
After a lot of talk, the 27-year-old player joined the Red Devils on loan from Fiorentina last summer. He got off to a good start with United, but in recent months he hasn’t been a main player.
Even so, he is still an important player for his national team. He played great in the recent win over Tanzania, and on Sunday against DR Congo, he did it again.
Every pass Amrabat made at the Stade de San Pedro was finished 94% of the time. He won six duels on the ground and in the air, made three good saves, and only lost the ball three times.
Even though he played very well, Morocco could not get another win. Following Achraf Hakimi’s early goal, they were on track for three points. However, DR Congo tied the game late on through Silas.
It’s still easy for Morocco to win Group F. They have four points, two more than DR Congo and Zambia. They are sure to make it to the next round, but they will want to come out on top.
Amrabat, meanwhile, will want to play more for United when he gets back from AFCON.
The loan player from Fiorentina was supposed to be a big part of the club’s plans, but since Kobbie Mainoo from the school came up, he hasn’t played as much.
In recent games, Mainoo has made the number six spot his own. After a long hamstring injury, Casemiro is back, but it’s not certain that the Brazilian will start over the youth.
Because of this, Amrabat might have trouble getting regular playing time near the end of the season. He seems likely to go back to Florence this summer. United probably won’t use their buy choice.
