Altay Bayindir, a goalkeeper for Fenerbahce, is now in the UK in order to join Manchester United.
After acquiring Andre Onana from Inter earlier this summer, United has been forced to search for a new goalkeeper.
Dean Henderson has been given clearance to secure a transfer to Selhurst Park and is currently en route to Crystal Palace.
Henderson has started United’s opening three Premier League games from the bench, including the victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Henderson’s involvement in the United matchday squad should have been his last because his move to Palace is now a certainty.
In order to compete with Onana, United must sign a replacement, and it appears like Bayindir will be that man.
Altay Bayindir in the UK to finalise Manchester United move
Altay Bayindir, the goalkeeper for Fenerbahce, has emerged as United’s main target recently.
As of right now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Bayindir has already arrived in England and is on his way to Old Trafford.
According to reports, Bayindir and United have reached an agreement on a transaction of €7 million (£6 million), and he is about to join the team.
After Thursday night’s 5-1 victory against Twente in the Europa Conference League playoff, Bayindir waved goodbye to the Fenerbahce supporters. His departure had been planned for days.
Dominiik Livakovic of Dinamo Zagreb has joined Fenerbahce as a substitute for Bayindir, who Fenerbahce had already secured. Livakovic is a Croatian international goalkeeper.
Bayindir move makes sense for Manchester United
When the Daily Mail reported that United and Bayindir had held negotiations over a transfer in July, the rumors around the player really picked up steam.
Henderson’s departure was inevitable, and United appeared to have Bayindir in mind as a top candidate to take his place.
The 6ft 6in stopper is available for a reasonable cost, which would allow United to use the money elsewhere, such for Sofyan Amrabat.
Although Bayindir, who is only 25 years old, still has a lot of room to grow, he has already made approximately 150 appearances for Fenerbahce.
Cheap, tall, experienced, but yet with space for improvement, Bayindir appears like a strong contender to take on Onana.
