A group from Manchester United has paid their respects to those who sadly perished in the Munich Air Disaster by visiting Manchesterplatz.
The memorial commemorates the club’s worst day ever in 1958, and manager Erik ten Hag and assistant coach Steve McClaren also lay wreaths.
Another wreath was given on behalf of the club by chief executive officer Richard Arnold and illustrious former captain Bryan Robson, who were both in attendance.
Bruno Fernandes, the team captain, and Rasmus Hojlund, who scored one of the goals in the 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, spoke for the players and participated in the minute of silence.

Football director John Murtough and COO Collette Roche were among the club execs who traveled to the region.John Massey, a devoted fan who witnessed Sir Matt Busby’s Babes perform prior to the disaster, spoke for the supporters. He has been going to games since 1955 and is a member of the Fans’ Forum, so it goes without saying that he was moved to be there.
The Bavarian capital continued to enjoy mild weather as there were about 30 traveling Reds present in all.Prior to the Under-19s’ UEFA Youth League debut against Bayern on Tuesday night, an Academy delegation made a separate trip to Manchesterplatz.
The group was led by Nick Cox and Travis Binnion as they learned about the Munich Air Disaster and its effects on the club has always been a key part of the education of our young footballers. We appreciate Bayern’s kind hospitality and ongoing remembrance of the events that occurred 65 years ago.
