That same day, the head of UNESCO, the UN agency for culture and sport, named Vinícius Jr. the new Goodwill Ambassador for Education for All. The event took place at the Real Madrid players’ training center.
During her visit, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay gave the 23-year-old winger a job letter. She did this to remember his great play on the field and his unwavering dedication to making sure everyone in Brazil has equal access to education.
Vilnius Junior: I want to be known as a great player and a kind person who wants to make the world a better place.
Ms. Azoulay said that the regular for the Brazilian national team was “a passionate advocate for equal access to education in Brazil in addition to being a great football player.”
.
After Pelé, this is the second time in UNESCO’s history that a Brazilian football player has been picked as a Goodwill Ambassador.
“For a whole generation,” a role model
The statement said, “UNESCO is proud to have him join our esteemed group of Goodwill Ambassadors as an inspiration to a whole generation.”
Additionally, Vinícius Junior thanked the person for the award and said that it was an incredibly difficult task that would take a lifetime to finish.
“I want to be known as a great player who also wants to make the world a better place and be a good citizen.” “When I was 19, I made a promise to dedicate my life to education. With UNESCO’s help, my Institute wants to make the world a better place,” he said.
His goal when he started the Instituto Viní.Jr. in 2021 was to help poor Brazilian kids and teens go back to school.
Using the values of sports, the organization gets kids from all walks of life to go to school.
Vinícius Junior will play a big role in helping UNESCO reach its goal of promoting education for all by giving talks at international conferences, working with Member States and the public, and supporting the organization’s global education projects.
UNESCO says that about 250 million kids and teens do not have access to school. Since 2021, this number has grown by 6 million.
Also, 70% of kids by age 10 can’t read and understand an easy text. This is proof of how important it is to fight social unfairness, which is a main reason why kids drop out of school and can’t learn.
