With Andre Onana’s assist, Manchester United were able to beat Everton on Sunday, setting a new Premier League record.
The Red Devils won 3-0 at Goodison Park thanks to Onana’s shutout.
Man Utd took the lead in the third minute thanks to a miraculous overhead kick by Alejandro Garnacho.
After Bruno Fernandes set up Marcus Rashford for a penalty kick in the 56th minute, Rashford made no mistake in doubling his team’s lead.
The three points were secured with a third goal by Anthony Martial fifteen minutes before the end of the game.
As he kept the Toffees scoreless, Onana looked rock solid in goal.
Among his many save was a spectacular one that prevented Idrissa Gueye from scoring from long range.
With that, Manchester United became the first team in Premier League history to record 500 clean sheets.
Also, with five clean sheets this season, Onana is tied for first place in the Premier League.
Because he was responsible for multiple goals, the 27-year-old had a rough start to his career with Manchester United.
However, ever since last month’s miraculous penalty save against Copenhagen, he has resembled Inter Milan’s Onana from the previous season.
Erik ten Hag, who foresaw a change in form for the Cameroonian after Man United’s loss to Galatasaray, was sure that he would recover.
“We are happy with our goalkeeping group, definitely with Andre,” he commented. He has the makings of a world-class goalie; he reached the Champions League final last year and was in the tournament’s semi-finals once.
That he will do is evident from his actions. His personality after a mistake is something we’ve seen before, and we’ve also witnessed his tremendous ability in gaming. I have faith in his ability to recover and perform well in the upcoming games.
