Fans think Lisandro Martinez should have taken a bath right away after making an X-rated hit against Crystal Palace.
The Man United defender’s two-footed lunge on Daichi Kamada made Palace fans and players very angry.
Just after the hour mark of the 0-0 tie, Martinez jumped into the wild challenge.
As United tried to score the first goal, the Argentine centre back tried to get the ball back on the edge of the Palace box.
Martinez sped in, leaving the ground, and jumped with both feet into the block as Kamada tried to clear.
When the 26-year-old player touched the ball, referee David Coote called a foul right away.
Alan Smith, a commentator for Sky Sports, gasped live on air as slow-motion images showed Martinez leave the ground: “I just don’t know why you would do that.”
As Coote waved the yellow card at Martinez, he tried his best to look like he wasn’t guilty.
But many people at home thought the United star should have seen red.
On X, one fan went crazy and said, “Lisandro Martinez is a criminal.”
A third person said, “Lisandro Martinez should get a red card for that tackle.” That puts an opponent in danger, whether there was touch or not.
A third said: “Lisandro Martinez should not be getting away with this type of tackle, the intention alone worth a red card.”
“Wild, dangerous, and completely out of control,” said a fourth. The goal was to hurt Kamada very badly.”
The Premier League said that VAR experts had looked at the tackle.
A yellow card was still given because they thought there was “no contact” with Kamada.
The Premier League Match Centre X account said, “Martinez got a yellow card for a challenge on Kamada.”
“VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee’s call of no red card, deeming this was a reckless challenge and made no contact with Kamada.”
After the game, Sky Sports commentator Jamie Redknapp didn’t hold back when he called the hit “ridiculous.”
He said, “I’d love to tell you what he’s doing.”
“We saw that tackle a long time ago.” I don’t see why you would want to jump in with both feet.
“It’s a straight red if he lands on his foot.” He almost hits the foot, which is why he doesn’t.
“He’s lucky.” I don’t get what the advantage is. “This is a silly challenge.”
Erik Ten Hag’s team was upset in South East London because they couldn’t score. This was just a few days after scoring seven goals against Barnsley in the League Cup.
Even though United had most of the ball, they couldn’t score any goals.
They are now 11th in the Premier League table with 7 points from 5 games because of the tie.
Palace, on the other hand, still hasn’t won a league game this season.
