Amad Diallo, a forward for Manchester United, will return to England after withdrawing from the Ivory Coast team for the upcoming AFCON trials.
The 22-year-old was supposed to be very important in Ivory Coast’s two games against Sierra Leone. The first game was set for Friday, October 11, and the second game was set for Tuesday, October 12. Both games were in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. But Amad is going to fly back to Carrington because he said he was sick at the national team camp.
As of Amad’s departure, he was the fourth United player to do so. He joined a growing list of players who have skipped international duty. Adding to the list of people who have dealt with fitness issues are Noussair Mazraoui, Alejandro Garnacho, and Kobbie Mainoo. Garnacho and Mainoo have been hurt for a long time, and summer signing Mazraoui had to leave United’s goalless draw with Aston Villa at halftime last weekend. Harry Maguire will also miss some time because he hurt himself in the same game against Villa.
During the September international window, Amad played a big role in recent wins over Zambia and Chad. Manager Emerse Fae will have a hard time filling his shoes without him. In the playoffs, though, they are in first place in Group F with six points from their two games.
Amad has helped United with their flair by scoring a goal and setting up another in six Premier League games. With a Premier League game coming up against Brentford, it’s still not clear if Amad will be able to get back to full health before October 19.
