He talks about his recent trip to Sierra Leone and the work he is doing to make a real difference there.
In Sierra Leone, Rudiger’s mother was born. He went there to start a new group that would work to bring about change and improve people’s lives in this small West African country.
He was born in Berlin and now lives in England, but Rudiger’s family is from Sierra Leone. He plays for the German national team. His mum was born in the country, and his parents just moved back there after raising their children in Europe. He feels it’s his job to make the world a better place with his fame and wealth.
“It was a great trip,” he told us when he got back to Cobham. “I am going to the country for the second time. I had a little more stress this time because I had to start the fund and meet the president soon.
This has been on my list of things to do for a while because it’s important to me. I began making plans as soon as I learned that we would have a week off. They moved back to Sierra Leone four years ago, and I hadn’t seen my mum in years. So I had to go back.
One of Rudiger’s main charity foundation’s goals is to make education, sports, and facilities better for everyone. They also want to improve reading and writing skills across the country. eight million people live there.
An international development group called the World Bank says that even though the country has become much richer in the last ten years, 43% of people still live in poverty.
Rudiger says, “The foundation’s only goal is to help those who are poor get ahead in life.” In Sierra Leone, it was important for me to do this to get to know people.
“This isn’t just one person.” There are some people and groups I’d like to work with to improve the future for young people. In the beginning of 2020, he gave more than $100,000 to Liberia’s Free Quality Education programme. This helps over two million kids in elementary and middle schools. He recently paid for 11 kids with foot problems to do life-changing things. During the trip, the 28-year-old also saw the Sierra Leone Amputee football team.
After that, he said, “It’s part of our focus on sports inclusivity.” “These guys love football just as much as I do, but they’re hurt pretty badly.”
“These people should not fall behind in life.” I want people to notice them too, so let’s include them and listen to what they have to say. Both men and women act the same way. I’d like everyone to be the same.
African sports are getting more attention as the Africa Cup of Nations draws to a close. Last but not least, Edouard Mendy’s Senegal made it to Sunday’s final. They are going to the game for the first time since 1996. They were proud to show how strong and skilled they are, even though they didn’t make it to the round of 16.
Rudiger also wants to keep getting Sierra Leone to reach their goal. As a football representative for the country, it’s his job to help make the country even more well-known around the world. For me, though, the most important thing is making my chances, hopes, and dreams come true.
Rodgers said, “The boys deserve a lot of praise because they worked very hard to make it for the first time in 25 years.”
The only times you hear about Sierra Leone are when there is a civil war or the Ebola virus. This is a new way to show the country. They mostly said bad things about us, so it was nice to see us in a different light.
As you might guess, getting praise from the president is one of the best things that can happen to you. I’m thankful and proud of myself. I didn’t expect anything but a wonderful welcome.
