With some players’ futures at Emirates unknown, Arsenal is preparing for a big summer.

Jorginho is among them. The Italian’s deal expires at the end of the current campaign, and in the summer, he will be available for free agency. It’s interesting to note that Barcelona has previously been connected to a deal for Jorginho.

But, given Jorginho’s anticipated exit, a more concerning possibility for Barcelona is that Arsenal would look to add a new defensive midfield player.

Transfer target for Zubimendi is Arsenal

Actually, according to a recent report from Caught Offside, Arsenal is considering Martin Zubimendi as a possible Jorginho substitute.

The Premier League’s biggest clubs think Zubimendi is a gifted young player who might eventually take Jorginho’s spot.

For many years, Zubimendi has been one of Real Sociedad’s best players. His release clause, worth approximately €60 million, is what makes him such a desirable target for Arsenal.

As a result, the Spaniard would be a far more affordable choice for the team than Douglas Luiz, who plays defensive midfield. In light of that, Zubimendi might even become an Arsenal transfer priority this summer.

Concerning Barça?

Barcelona, who are eager to acquire a top-tier number six, has suffered a setback with Arsenal’s arrival into the competition to sign Zubimendi.

Barcelona has long been interested in Zubimendi in particular since Xavi Hernandez is a great fan of the Spanish international.

It should be mentioned, though, that Barcelona has had difficulty meeting Zubimendi’s release clause for a number of years, and this is not likely to alter in the upcoming summer.

Given Barcelona’s financial struggles this summer, one could even be forgiven for thinking that Zubimendi is an unattainable goal for them. As a result, the possibility that the Spaniard could sign with Arsenal this summer is not going to phase the Catalans.
