Atletico Madrid is about to pay Manchester City around £70 million for Julian Alvarez, who is about to leave the City team.

This summer, Atletico has already talked to City twice about Alvarez, and the two sides are almost ready to agree on a payment plan that works for everyone.

The Premier League champions will have sold more players than ever before with Alvarez’s exit, beating Barcelona’s £55 million deal for Spanish forward Ferran Torres.

Pep Guardiola has to decide if he wants to replace Alvarez, who played in more games than any other City star last season.

The City manager said last week that the club will only try to get a new player if one of their current players leaves.

In two seasons with City, Alvarez played 103 games and scored 36 goals. He was Erling Haaland’s backup and could also be used as an attacking midfielder.
