Roy Keane has said some mean things about England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
Even though Cole Palmer scored a goal in the 73rd minute, England lost their second straight European Championship final on Sunday night, as Spain won their fourth Euros.
Spain won the trophy with a goal in the 86th minute from replacement Mikel Oyarzabal that gave his team the lead again.
Keane, a defender who used to play for Manchester United, wasn’t shy about how he thought England played in the game.
The Irish commentator told ITV, “The best team won tonight.” During the whole event, they were the best team.
“I don’t think England played well tonight.” Throughout the tournament, they haven’t been good enough. Their fight, drive, and having options off the bench are likely what got them to this final.
Spain had an amazing Euros. They won a record-setting seven straight games, making it a perfect event.
England, on the other hand, didn’t play very well in many of their games and often needed late heroics from players like Ollie Watkins or Jude Bellingham to make it through the competition.
“High-level sports are very rough.” There are times when the other side is just better than you. “Spain were great,” Keane said.
“Take a step back and be humble.” It’s great to win, but if the other team beats you, you need to put things behind you and try again…
“You go home, spend time with your family, and take a vacation. In a couple of weeks, you’ll be back in pre-season.” You need to go again.
But Keane’s suggestion that England’s player go home and get back on track wasn’t meant as pity; the 52-year-old said that they were lucky to even make it to the final after how they played in Euro 2024.
