While Julian Alvarez was at River Plate, both Barcelona and Real Madrid were keeping an eye on him. Both clubs missed out on the Argentine, though, because he signed with Manchester City in January 2022.
Even so, Barcelona is still very interested in getting Alvarez, and they hope to have a chance to do so in 2024. Sport says that Xavi Hernandez really likes the World Cup winner and would really like to bring him to Catalonia soon.
According to the story, Alvarez has a €50 million release clause at Manchester City. Barcelona would love to use this clause to get Alvarez, even though they have well-known money problems. It’s been a while since they spent a lot of money on a player, and Alvarez might be the next one.
Barcelona will think they can get Alvarez to leave Manchester City, where he has spent most of the last year playing behind Erling Haaland. Still, even with this, it would be a huge surprise if they could make a deal.
