Darwin Nunez had a breakout season at Benfica, and ahead of the 2022–2023 season, Liverpool signed him for a €75 million deal. The striker was a great addition to the team and had an immediate impact. This season, his numbers have increased even more, and they may yet rise.
In 52 games this season, Nunez has 18 goals and 13 assists. According to whoscored’s statistics, he is averaging 2.9 shots, 1 crucial pass, and 0.7 dribbles per game. His overall stats are good, even though he hasn’t seen the biggest improvements in Europe during the current campaign.
With his raw speed and strength, the Urugian can take on the defenders. He sets up himself perfectly to locate balls close to the penalty area. He is a deadly striker who is constantly a threat in the air and has excellent finishing. Nunez shouldn’t be passing up too many excellent opportunities, though.
Nobody can deny Barcelona’s ongoing financial problems. They are under pressure once more to balance the books for the upcoming season. Despite their reluctance, Robert Lewandowski’s £27 million season pay may compel them to sell.
Should that occur, the Spanish behemoth will need to add a new striker to cover the void. The team has picked Darwin Nunez because they think he might be a long-term investment. The 24-year-old has shown promise and will only grow stronger with time.
Liverpool isn’t trying to sell Nunez, but if a big deal comes in, they might think differently. The striker may leave Anfield given the recent managerial change. Barcelona will need to pay a lot of money to hire him, though.
