Manchester City is one of the best teams in the Premier League, and Barcelona has recently signed a number of players from them.
It was the summer of 2021 when Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia joined, and it was January 2022 when Ferran Torres did the same.
Barcelona took over former Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer this summer, and they are still interested in long-term goal Bernardo Silva.
Barcelona is interested in Julian Alvarez.
Now, SPORT says that Barcelona is interested in another Manchester City player. Manager Xavi Hernandez is said to like forward Julian Alvarez.
The story says that the head coach of Barcelona “really likes” the 23-year-old Argentine forward and sees him as a good addition to the team in the future.
This is not the first time that Alvarez has been linked to a move to the La Liga winners.
Barcelona would need another good scorer to take over for Robert Lewandowski in the long run, even though Vitor Roque will be coming in next year.
In that case, a young forward like Alvarez could come in. The forward has already shown his worth at Man City and with the Argentine national team.
But Barcelona will have a hard time getting Alvarez because the 23-year-old has a long-term deal with Manchester City that ends in 2028.
It had been said before that the Argentine international has an escape option that could make him a target.
However, those rumors were later put to rest, and it is thought that Man City would not sell for less than €80 million, even if they were interested in leaving.
As things stand, it doesn’t look like Alvarez will be leaving Barcelona anytime soon, given how broke they are right now. We don’t know if things will change in the future.
