The Liverpool striker is fully recovering from an injury that kept him out for most of last season. Since joining Jurgen Klopp’s team, he has proven himself to be a reliable player by scoring eleven goals and setting up five others.

 

Before Diaz moved to Liverpool, Laporta was interested in him, and based on their dinner together, it looks like the president of Barcelona hasn’t forgotten about the Colombian player.

Move not useful

In the story, it is said that Laporta asked how much money Diaz would need to get from Liverpool to Barcelona.

 

The agency is said to have replied with an unbelievable amount, thought to be worth between €120 million and €140 million. The number doesn’t come as a surprise given how important he is to Liverpool’s plans and how long his deal is; it ends in 2027.

Barcelona’s financial needs make it impossible to reach that number, and Laporta told Diaz’s agency this. “It’s not possible,” the head of Barcelona is said to have said.

 

As was already said, Barcelona and Laporta were also interested in Diaz when he was at FC Porto. But when they made their offer, the player was already in advanced talks with Liverpool, as the head of the club said in November 2022.

There was no choice. “He was a player we were interested in when we got here,” the president said. “But Liverpool had already started very advanced talks with Porto.”

 

Given the amounts of money that are likely to be involved, Diaz is not likely to make a move this summer.
