Pau Cubarsí, the Barcelona superstar, has added even more history to the pages of European football this evening.
The stopper was given a starting spot in Barcelona’s eagerly awaited matchup against Napoli.
Naturally, Xavi and company are now engaged in a Champions League Last-16 matchup with the Italian champions in their second leg of play.
As it stands, the Blaugrana have a slim lead, but Napoli is still very much in the running to qualify for the quarterfinals thanks to a brilliant finish from Amir Rrahmani late in the first half.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Pau Cubarsí is having another great night on the Barcelona side of things.
Alongside defensive partner Ronald Araújo, the Spanish prospect was given a starting spot at the center of the hosts’ backline in Catalunya this evening. He looked as composed as he had ever looked.
Furthermore, by playing from the start against Napoli, Cubarsí made history for himself.
As the statistician Mister Chip disclosed:
“As of right now, Au Cubarsi is the youngest player to debut in a knockout match of the UEFA Champions League.”
At 17 years and 50 days, the defender has surpassed David Alaba of Real Madrid’s previous record (17 years and 258 days).
