Barcelona targets Man City star Julian Alvarez to replace Robert Lewandowski with a clause of £43.4 million

Recent sources say that Barcelona is interested in signing Julián Alves.

The star player for Manchester City has had a great start to the season, hitting six goals and setting up five others.

Barcelona wants to fill Robert Lewandowski’s long-term spot with Julian Alvarez.

It is said that Xavi really likes Alvarez.

This could mean that Pep Guardiola has to keep the 23-year-old, though.

Sport in Spain says that Barcelona is interested in Julian Alvarez as a long-term substitute for Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski and Alvarez have both had great starts to the season, with six goals and four assists between them. However, Lewandowski and Alvarez are 12 years apart in age and are at different stages of their lives.

According to a source in Sport, both Xavi, the boss of Barcelona, and Deco, the sports director and former player for Chelsea, like Alvarez. Xavi likes how versatile and good at shooting he is.

The attacker was very important in Argentina’s win of the World Cup in Qatar.

After being named the South American Footballer of the Year for 2021, Alvarez was bought by City from River Plate for just £14 million in January 2022.

Alvarez is said to have a £43.4m (€50m) release option.

Guardiola and City’s technical director Txiki Begiristain have no plans to let him go, even though there are rumors of a move.

Alvarez is under contract with the team that won the Treble last season until 2028.

Alvarez is more than capable of playing as a straight striker, but this season he has been put behind Erling Haaland in a slightly deeper spot. This is partly because Kevin de Bruyne has been injured.
