Barcelona will have Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal ready for their La Liga game against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, but they still have a number of first-team players who can’t play.
Balde hurt his adductor while playing for Spain during the international break and had to be taken out of the squad. However, the defender has since trained with his club and is now ready.
Yamal didn’t play for La Roja because of a hip problem, but the 16-year-old is healthy enough to play this weekend and should start in the back third of the field.
The trio of Robert Lewandowski, Pedri, and Raphinha are still not ready to play in this game because they are all trying to get ready for the match against Real Madrid at the end of the month.
Sergi Roberto is also out because of a leg injury. Jules Kounde and Frenkie de Jong are also out because of knee and ankle injuries, respectively.
There was some question about whether Ronald Araujo and Ilkay Gundogan would be able to play because they were currently on international duty with Uruguay and Germany, but during his press conference, head coach Xavi said that both players would be able to play.
Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo, who are both on loan, will start again, and Oriol Romeu will come back into the team after starting on the bench against Granada.
Because Kounde isn’t playing, Andreas Christensen will be able to keep his spot in the middle of the defense, and Gavi will start in central midfield.
This is how Barcelona might start: Ter Stegen; Cancelo, Christensen, Araujo, Balde; Gundogan, Romeu, Gavi; Yamal, F Torres, Felix
