When Real Madrid plays Rayo Vallecano at Estadio de Vallecas on Sunday afternoon, they have a great chance to increase their lead at the top of the La Liga table to eight points.
Girona is currently in second place, five points behind Real Madrid. Since Girona doesn’t play again until Monday night, Los Blancos can increase their lead with a win tomorrow.
The momentum is also on Carlo Ancelotti’s team’s side after two important wins last week against Girona (La Liga) and RB Leipzig (UEFA Champions League).
But Rayo Vallecano, who now have Inigo Perez as their boss, held Real Madrid scoreless in the first game, which took place at the Santiago Bernabeu. That means the game on Sunday won’t be easy.
Here’s how Real Madrid might line up at the Vallecas if they want to achieve another goal and win La Liga.
Starting Points
With Andriy Lunin’s strong play, Kepa Arrizabalaga is no longer the first-choice custodian. So, the Ukrainian should play against Rayo Vallecano for Real Madrid again.
The defence that played Leipzig last week will have one change: Fran Garcia will play left back instead of Ferland Mendy, who is suspended because he is out of the game.
Because Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, and Eder Militao are still hurt, Aurelien Tchouameni will have to fill in at centre-back again. He will play with skipper Nacho Fernandez. Dani Carvajal should stay on the right side of the defence for now.
Because Tchouameni is starting in defence, Eduardo Camavinga will likely play in the middle of the pitch for Real Madrid. But there might be a big change in the middle of the pitch. Toni Kroos might get a break, and Luka Modric might get a rare start after not playing for a while. Federico Valverde will play the other inner midfielder spot for the away team.
Brahim Diaz had to leave the game against RB Leipzig because he wasn’t fit, but he is not hurt and is still on the team list. Since Jude Bellingham is hurt, the Spaniard should start in the hole behind the two forwards again because of how well he has been playing.
In the attacking third, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr., two powerful Brazilians, can’t be missed. They will both be eager to score after not scoring against Leipzig.
Different kinds of
There is no doubt that Joselu will enter the game at some point to add a different kind of danger in the attacking third. Plus, Toni Kroos should leave the bench if things aren’t going well for Real Madrid.
There could also be minutes for Arda Guler, who hasn’t played as much as one would have thought after coming back from illness. Ancelotti can also use Dani Ceballos if he needs to take one of his midfielders off the pitch.
