The day after Manchester United’s loss to Arsenal, Erik ten Hag was brutally honest about Jadon Sancho.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United,’ surprised’ Teddy Sheringham with how he handled a sensitive scenario with Jadon Sancho. Sheringham claims that Ten Hag’s approach is different from that of legendary former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who preferred to keep things internal.
Ten Hag readily acknowledged that Sancho’s exclusion from his matchday squad following Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal was a result of his subpar performance in practice. Since moving to Manchester United for £73 million in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund, the winger has mainly disappointed.
Then, when Ten Hag made his shocking admission, he didn’t take it well, posting on X, “Please don’t believe everything you read! I’ve behaved myself admirably this week during training. I think there are other factors at play, but I won’t go into them because I’ve been used as a scapegoat for too long.
According to reports, United is standing by Ten Hag’s remarks, and Sancho’s future at Old Trafford is in doubt.
When asked if Sir Alex would discuss team problems in front of the team, as Ten Hag did over the weekend, Sheringham responded to Sky Sports, “No, not at all. Almost never, however.
“The more you can control things internally, the more power you’ll have. With the advent of social media, people will now have their say. It just brings more hype around the situation. I’m surprised that it has happened.”After being left out of Gareth Southgate’s most recent England selection, Sancho will have some time to sort things out with Ten Hag. While playing for Dortmund, the 23-year-old was a regular for England’s national team, but because of his on-field troubles, the Three Lions have looked elsewhere.
In an effort to get Sancho back to his best last season, Ten Hag took extraordinary measures. After being assigned to train separately from the first squad for many weeks, the former Manchester City youth standout made his comeback in February by scoring against Leeds.
Sancho, however, is once again on the fringes at United, so the improvement was short-lived. The wide man has played only 77 minutes through four Premier League games.
Cristiano Ronaldo found himself resigning from his position at Manchester United and traveling to Saudi Arabia the last time one of Ten Hag’s players called him out in public. If Sancho follows a similar course when the transfer window reopens in January, it remains to be seen.
