John Stones’ goal in stoppage time gave Pep Guardiola’s team a 2-1 victory just when it seems like they might lose the chance to capitalize on Arsenal’s loss to Bournemouth.

Seven minutes in, Jorgen Strand Larsen’s probing cross from the right gave the home team a startling lead.

City hit back on 33 minutes through a delightful curling right-footed shot by defender Josko Gvardiol.

It looked like the game was petering out to a 1-1 draw until Stones struck late with a header following a corner.

The goal left Wolves boss Gary O’Neil outraged as he was convinced Stones’ teammate Bernardo Silva was in an offside position and thus affecting Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa’s ability to save Stones’ header.

But following a VAR review the goal stood and City claimed the crucial three points.

They are the only team that are yet to taste defeat in the league this term and their record stretches back a long way.

The champions are unbeaten in their last 31 games, the longest run in their league history.

This result sees City go top of the Premier League, although this could be temporarily as Liverpool will retake top spot with a victory over Chelsea later on Sunday.
