BRUNO FERNANDES said he was shocked when Manchester United sold young star Maxi Oyedele in the summer.
They played against each other last night in Portugal’s 3-1 win over Poland in the Nations League.
Fernandes and Oyedele fought in the middle of the field, and the 19-year-old won his first international game.
They changed shirts and stood for a picture together after the game.
It was Fernandes who was named man of the match. He posted the picture on Instagram and wrote, “Happy to see you doing great things.” “You deserve the best, kid.”
The captain of Manchester United also talked about him after the game. “I think he was always one of the players that everyone at the club thought would be coming from the academy into the first team,” he said.
“He has great qualities, he is a great kid and really humble.”
Oyedele joined Manchester United when he was eight years old and worked his way up through the school ranks. Two years ago, he won the FA School Cup.
After spending last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers, he played in United’s preseason games this summer.
His mother is Polish and his father is Nigerian. The star player was born in Salford and was sold by his childhood club to Legia Warsaw in August.
Oyedele has played four times for the 15-times Ekstraklasa winners since moving there.
Legia manager Goncalo Feio talked about Oyedele’s talent and surprise departure from Old Trafford. He said, “Oyedele’s quality on the ball, his character in retaining possession, and his tactical awareness when to dribble or play simply are all important traits.”
“Bruno even said he was surprised that United decided to sell him after seeing how Oyedele played in preseason.”
“He is very physically fit, quick, and able to make good use of his body.”
People really enjoy watching Maxi play because he is strong in the middle of the field.
“We need to help him grow, that’s our job.” Polish football will benefit a lot from his skill.
