LEGENDS COMEBACK: Bruno Fernandes (MOTM) had 90 touches of the ball and created 6 opportunities; Cristiano Ronaldo scores double for perfect Portugal on comeback day; Dalot plays 90 QUIET minutes

Portugal’s final match before the Euro 2024 competition took place on Tuesday, with a 3-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland. Portugal won handily thanks to two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Roberto Martinez’s team scored a goal to help them bounce back from their defeat to Croatia the previous week and feel more positive about the event in Germany.

The 39-year-old Ronaldo did not play in that match but did play in Aveiro against Ireland. In the first half, he came close to scoring, but in the second half, the home team dominated.

Pepe, a 41-year-old veteran defender, also got off to a start. When he plays in the Euros, he will be the oldest player ever.

2016’s Euro winners Portugal qualified with a spotless record, but some doubts had been raised by some of their previous performances.

He stated, “The Portuguese have high expectations for Portugal; there is no room for error, none at all. They always want Portugal to win because of the talent and generation.”

“We must dream of the Euros while keeping our feet firmly planted on the ground.”

In a sixth event that will set a record, Ronaldo will compete. In 2004, he participated in his first one.

“Looking back to 2004, my pride and thoughts are still the same,” he remarked.

“Being a player for the Portuguese national team is the best thing ever.”

“This team has to dream and work hard; talent alone is useless without hard work. We need to think positively in order to succeed in the Euros.”

After a brief corner, Felix scored a well-placed goal in the eighteenth minute to break the stalemate.

Ronaldo nearly doubled the score, but his free kick was blocked and struck the post.

After tripping under pressure, the Al-Nassr striker asked for a penalty and then, near the end of the first half, shot a good chance straight at Caoimhin Kelleher.

Ronaldo scored right away after the break with a beautiful shot that curled into the top corner. He did not have to wait long.

The ex-Real Madrid striker quickly scored another after Diogo Jota found him in a good spot in the area.

Ronaldo scored his 130th international goal with another calm finish, breaking the old record.

Ireland, who was playing with new coach John O’Shea, was getting tired, but Portugal could not add to their lead. The striker missed a chance to score his third goal by a hair’s breadth.

“The game against Croatia served to bring us down a peg and today we did a great job, it is about following this line,” he said.

“We have 100 percent confidence on the way to Germany.”

Euro 2024 starts on Friday, and Portugal’s first game is on June 18 against the Czech Republic. They then play Turkey and Georgia in Group F.
