Manchester United had another terrible day yesterday. Erik ten Hag’s time as boss of the Red Devils is running out quickly.
Ten Hag’s team played badly, and Tottenham easily won 3-0 at Old Trafford. Brennan Johnson scored the first goal, and Manchester United never really looked like they could come back.
United also lost 3-0 at home to Liverpool earlier this season. They’ve also been held by Crystal Palace in the Premier League and Twente in the Europa League lately, which wasn’t good.
BBC Sport has put together some numbers that show how badly things are going for United. These numbers make it clear that Ten Hag needs to be fired soon.
Ten Hag’s numbers clearly show that the Man United boss can’t go back.
According to the BBC, Ten Hag’s United have the joint-fewest points ever after six games in the Premier League. They also have the fewest goals scored, except for the beginning of the 2007–08 season. Another problem is that they’ve lost more league games by three goals or more since Sir Alex Ferguson left than they ever did while he was in charge. Also, since the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rule, this is the first time United has lost two home league games without scoring.
It’s basically very bad news for Ten Hag; he hasn’t made the progress you’d expect after having a lot of time to put his theory and tactics into action and also change the team.
A lot of the players on this team were signed by Ten Hag. Some of them used to play for Ajax, like Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Andre Onana, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Even though Ten Hag might not be fired right away, MUFC will need to see drastic changes very soon. If they don’t, the answer to their problems should be clear by now.
