Bruno Fernandes said that his Manchester United teammates “didn’t kill the game right away” in their FA Cup game against Newport County.
Unfortunately, Erik ten Hag’s team lost 4–2, but the Welsh team made it hard at times.
Fernandes scored the first goal after only seven minutes, and then kid Kobbie Mainoo scored the second.
But a great goal by Bryn Morris and a finish by Will Evans tied the game for the League Two team.
Antony and Rasmus Hojlund scored goals that sent United to the next round, but Fernandes criticized his team for not finishing off the game and being too selfish.
After the game, Fernandes said, “No, obviously, that wasn’t the one we wanted.” We tried our best to win and did, but the outcome was not ideal for us.
“Obviously, we didn’t want it to give up goals the first time.” They scored a great goal. Not believable. Wow, what a shot.
“We need to pay more attention in the second half because we can’t give them another goal and let them believe.” We had chances to make it 3–0 in the first half, but we need to end the game right away.
“But because when the score is 2-0, everyone wants to score and get their goal, and we don’t always make the best choice for the team.”
“We didn’t, they got a goal in the first second, which was because they had faith.” We did a great job closing out the game, though.
In the next round, United will play either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest. They will be looking for a smoother game against either team.
