Sporting Lisbon’s new third kit is a tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo, and his son was chosen to wear the shirt, which is shaped like the number 7.
There is a gold stripe across the front of the black jersey that looks like the number 7. There is also gold detail on the collar and arms.
Ronaldo played in 31 games for Sporting and scored five goals before moving to Manchester United for £12 million in 2003. He won three Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League trophy, and the Ballon d’Or award in 2008.
Fans responded to the news on social media. Many were amazed by the honor to football’s all-time top scorer, while others couldn’t help but have high hopes for Cristiano Jr.
One person on X said, “That’s awesome to honor the goat.” Someone else said, “This is beautiful.”
A third said, “Big legacy,” pointing out that Cristiano Jr. is under a lot of pressure to follow in his father’s path.
The promotional picture shoot was captioned by Sporting with the words “We are our legacy,” which added to this idea.
The club said, “There are numbers that leave a legacy because, behind them, there are people who build it day after day.”
Cristiano Jr. has played for Ronaldo’s clubs’ youth teams since 2016, so he has been following in his father’s footsteps throughout his career.
The 14-year-old plays for Al-Nassr right now. He joined the Saudi Arabian team after his father’s controversial departure from United in 2023.
Before that, he played for Real Madrid from 2016 to 2018, Juventus from 2018 to 2021, and United for one year between 2021 and 2022.
It was said in 2019 that Cristiano Jr. had scored 58 goals in 28 games for Juventus’ Under-9 team.
Ronaldo talked about the idea of playing with his son one day on his YouTube channel ‘UR Cristiano’ with Mr. Beast. This came after basketball star LeBron James played with his oldest son Bronny for the LA Lakers in October.
Mr. Beast asked, “It’s crazy that LeBron doesn’t play with his son. Are you trying to make that happen in football?”
“Perhaps, I’ll see.” “He’s fourteen now,” Ronaldo said.
If you want to play for three more years, Mr. Beast said, “Get him to play when he’s seventeen.”
He then said, “Let’s see, let’s see how my legs are doing, we’ll see.”
But earlier this month, the Portuguese scorer said that he might only play for another two years. Many people think that he might retire after the 2026 World Cup in the USA.
