There were a lot of famous football players and stars like David Beckham in Glasgow today to honor the late wife of Sir Alex Ferguson.
This morning, Lady Cathy’s service took place at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, which is right in the middle of the city.
She died earlier this month at the age of 84, and football fans are still sad about it.
Beckham, 48, was joined by Darren Fletcher, 39, Gary Neville, 48, Nicky Butt, 48, Michael Carrick, 42, Ji-Sung Park, 42, Bryan Robson, 66, and Steve Bruce, 62. All of them were Manchester United players.
Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, is 50 years old, and Archie Knox, 76, used to work for Rangers and was an assistant manager.
Sir Alex walked with the coffin of his late wife out of the church and shook hands with Canon Andrew McKenzie, who led the service.
Outside, Beckham walked along the sidewalk across from the River Clyde with other people who were sad.
Three police officers kept an eye on things from across the street, in a police car, and on the ground.
Strangers were amazed as the former England captain talked outside for about ten minutes before being picked up by a Mercedes with its windows blacked out.
Businesspeople from the area, James Mortimer and Willie Haughey, were also at the service.
As a young player for Dunfermline Athletic in 1964, Sir Alex, now 81, met Cathy for the first time. Soon after, in 1966, not long before he moved to the Rangers, they got married.
Sir Alex wrote in his autobiography, “I met a wonderful girl who has been my rock for almost 50 years.”
They have three sons: Mark, born in 1968, and Darren and Jason, born in 1972, who are twins and run Peterborough United. Markus is a football agent. They have 12 grandkids as well.
