David de Gea has been seen in Manchester, and there are rumors that he might go back to Manchester United.
In July, De Gea announced that he would be leaving United after 12 years of service. He had won the Golden Glove award the previous season.
Erik ten Hag had to make a move in the summer and paid £47 million to sign Cameroonian goalie Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
But the 27-year-old hasn’t had the best start at Old Trafford. He’s made a lot of mistakes in goal that have cost the team a lot of money, and some of those mistakes have made fans wonder if they should have let De Gea go.
The 32-year-old posted a picture of himself on Instagram at a padel tennis court in Manchester, which has led to more rumors that he might return to United.
In fact, De Gea could be a good backup if Onana decides to play for Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations early next year.
As of now, De Gea has not signed with a new club and is still a free agent. This means that Ten Hag could try to re-sign the player, even though the Spaniard is still working hard by himself off the field.
However, it has been said that De Gea wants to live in his home country of Spain and is also thinking about retiring.
Fans have put two and two together and think United might try to sign De Gea on a short-term deal. It’s still not clear if his visit had anything to do with his old team.
On Twitter, someone asked, “Possible short-term contract until the end of the season?”
“OMG YES PLEASE SIGN HIM,” said someone else.
“Oh my gosh, he’s coming back,” said a third.
Another person said, “Onana should be worried,” and a fifth said, “De Gea as a number 2 will surely put pressure on Onana to perform.”
