Serbia is eliminated from the tournament after finishing fourth in Group C, while Denmark advances to the last 16 of UEFA EURO 2024 following a goalless draw.
There were few clear-cut opportunities in a competitive opening, but Denmark progressively began to assert their authority and came closest to scoring an early goal when Alexander Bah, who had replaced Victor Kristiansen in the starting XI in Munich, headed wide from Joakim Maehle’s inswinging delivery. Predrag Rajković made an exceptional save by deflecting a low Christian Eriksen shot around the post midway through the half, and he followed up with another exceptional save to prevent Rasmus Højlund from scoring.
As the first period progressed, Denmark maintained the majority of possession. However, they were unable to make any further inroads against a well-organized Serbia defence, with the exception of a Jonas Wind drive that soared high over Rajković’s crossbar. Consequently, the teams entered the break on equal terms.
Dušan Tadić and Luka Jović were introduced by Dragan Stojković during the interval to augment Serbia’s offensive capabilities; however, the EURO 2020 semi-finalists maintained their more daring approach. Nikola Milenković deflected Andreas Skov Olsen’s effort wide at halftime, and Hjulmand feathered a long-range strike off target.
Aleksandar Mitrović missed a close-range shot from a narrow angle in the final minutes, but that was the closest Serbia came to securing a spot in the knockout stages.
