After surpassing Pelé’s tally of three World Cup victories on Friday, Neymar rose to the top spot among goal scorers for Brazil’s national team.
Neymar, 31, scored the goal in the 61st minute of Brazil’s World Cup qualifying match against Bolivia in the Amazonian city of Belém, putting him at the top of the country’s scoring charts with 78 goals. In a 5-1 victory, it was Brazil’s fourth goal of the game.
After receiving a low cross inside the penalty area, Neymar finished accurately and closely from close range to set a new record. As Pelé would have done, he raised his fist in victory.
Goalkeeper Billy Viscarra earlier saved the Al-Hilal striker’s missed penalty in the 17th minute.
