In Harry Maguire’s opinion, video assistant referees should only be used for offsides and not for penalties or red cards.
Next month, during their annual meeting, Premier League clubs will vote on Wolves’ contentious demand to eliminate video assistant referee equipment.
Harry Maguire wants VAR to be scrappedPremier League clubs are set to vote on the future of VAR
Before the referendum on June 6, Maguire became the first prominent player to speak out. Maguire plays for Manchester United and England.
I believe it will split opinion and many will desire to retain it, he stated. In a similar vein, “get rid of it” is trendy right now. Improving the process is likely necessary.
Next season, there will be automated offsides, which will make it much better.
Quicker results are guaranteed.
In my opinion, VAR should be retained, but just for offsides. For any and all opinion-based content, I would discard it. The offside is a fact, not an opinion.
When a player is just a couple of yards offside, it is quite unlikely that the game will be decided by an offside goal.
I think video assistant referees should be retained during situations where mistakes are made by both players and linemen.
“But I would not have it for red cards, or penalties because even now, people disagree if a decision is right or wrong.”
Virtual assistant referees have been a major talking point in the locker rooms of every one of the 19 Premier League clubs this season, including United.
“There is a split,” Maguire stated while out with a calf injury.
Some athletes would prefer to see it eliminated. In a way, VAR offsides dampen the joy of celebrating a goal. The question of whether or not it constitutes a goal is always on the minds of players.
Sure, I would rather the referee decide on penalties than have video assistant referees.
This season, there have been an excessive number of soft penalties. As a crucial aspect of the game, penalties determine the outcome of football matches.
It goes without saying that I would say that as a defender. Attackers may request mild penalties.
So, as for me. Soft penalties should not be used to decide football matches. A clear and apparent consequence is what is needed. Just like with red cards, the referee should make that call.
Our goal is to make our game a full-contact affair. An aggressive game is what we are going for. We aim for an environment where individuals feel safe taking on challenging tasks.
Meanwhile, Maguire is still clinging to the hope that he can beat the clock and be ready for May 25th’s FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.
At the same time, the enthusiastic boxing fan is looking forward to Saturday’s huge heavyweight bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
The event is something that Maguire is quite excited about. The fight is one that everyone is eager to watch.
“We are both WOW Hydrate ambassadors and I have been in contact with Tyson over the last few years now so I will definitely be supporting him.
I hope he has success, like he has in every battle he has fought before. I wish him the best of luck.
This man is fantastic. He looks just like the ones you see on TV.
Having a fight at Wembley would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for him, in my opinion. Maybe he will get an all-English fight against Anthony Joshua which would be one of the biggest fights in English history.”
