Erik TEN HAG told Andre Onana that he needs to improve his play after a slow start at Manchester United.
Since taking over as United’s first-choice goalie from David de Gea, Onana has made a number of mistakes.
Some people aren’t sure if letting go of the Spanish player was the right thing to do, but Ten Hag is confident that his new player will do better
He talked about how De Gea and Peter Schmeichel had slow starts, even though both of them had great runs at Old Trafford.
Before the game, Ten Hag told the Sheffield United press, “He knows, we know, he will do much better.”
“Every new player in the Premier League needs some time to get used to the league, but he has to step up.”
“Big United goalkeepers like David de Gea and Peter Schmeichel didn’t start off very well. We all know that it’s helpful to know a little about the past.
“But we don’t live in the past; we live in the future. He needs to improve his performance to make his future.” I’m sure he will.
“He showed it at Barcelona, Ajax, Inter Milan, he was in the semi-final and final of the Champions League, I’m sure he will give a great performance.”
Ten Hag was allegedly willing to let Onana go because he was not playing well, and Altay Bayindir, who was also signed this summer, could have filled in as goalie.
The Dutchman, on the other hand, seems ready to put his faith in the Cameroonian, who was signed by Ten Hag because of his leadership skills and personality.
There was even talk of Onana going back to Inter Milan, and the club’s CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, hinted at a possible move in the future.
