After losing the Community Shield 7–6 to Manchester City on penalties, Erik Ten Hag wants his dejected Manchester United players to “feel the pain” and use it as inspiration.
When Alejandro Garnacho handed United a 1-0 lead eight minutes from time, United was within minutes away from victory. However, misses in the shootout by Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans cost United.
However, Ten Hag expects the loss to have lasting consequences when United play Fulham on Friday night in the Premier League. The team advanced to the shootout thanks to Bernardo Silva’s equalizing header in the 89th minute.
He said, “We are disappointed.” Everyone has to suffer pain, so that’s a positive indicator, but there are other advantages, in my opinion.
“We played well, had a chance to win this game, and were ahead in both the game and the penalties, but we’re disappointed that we lost.” But we choose the advantages.
Despite missing two excellent chances in regular time, Marcus Rashford, who struggled last season and finished with just eight goals after scoring thirty goals in Ten Hag’s debut season at United, is not worried about his confidence, according to his manager.
“No, no.” “I believe he was in excellent positions multiple times,” he continued.
I’m glad he’s gaining those places because I have faith in Rasmus [Hojlund] to keep progressing and produce the kind of movements the team needs to score goals.
“Once he scores one, the goals will follow.”
The winning manager, Pep Guardiola, is not as sure as the supporters that his team’s desire to capture a fifth Premier League title in a row is demonstrated by this victory. Guardiola walked to the Wembley touchline wearing a rather casual t-shirt and jeans combo.
Guardiola replied, “I would like to answer yes, but I’m not sure.”
Not because we won the game with just one minute remaining in it. We lost last season, but Arsenal did it and prevailed on penalties.
We must wait since we could have lost today and were in danger of losing with only a few minutes remaining.
“We are not at our best at all.” It’s common, but it’s preferable to start with a single victory.
“Though it looks nicer, nothing really changed because we won the title.”
