Saturday night in the Premier League, Manchester United goes to the City Ground to play Nottingham Forest. Erik ten Hag’s team just came back from being down 2-0 to beat Aston Villa 3-2 at Old Trafford on Christmas Day. Rasmus Hojlund scored his first league goal in that win.
One of Alejandro Garnacho’s goals was called off in the second half, but he still got two goals. In the second half, United looked like a different team. This shows that they have the confidence to win, and they have no reason not to do well for the rest of the season.
After beating Premier League powerhouse Newcastle United earlier in the week, Forest will be feeling great. Newcastle United fans want to start a feud with United because they want to be seen as something they’re not: a great team. God bless them.
Onana is the goalie.
Andre Onana hasn’t had a great time as a custodian for Manchester United. He hasn’t looked good in many of his games, and that’s a big part of the reason why United doesn’t seem to have accomplished anything this season. But it’s not just his fault.
Last season, Onana was the best custodian in the UEFA Champions League. This season, he was one of the worst. He hasn’t found his footing yet in the Premier League or for United this season in general. Cameroon’s custodian needs to make some changes.
Next month, Onana will play for his country in the African Cup of Nations. While he is away, United will need to get his backup ready to play goal for the club in the hopes that he can be strong and turn things around for United. Still, United’s defence has had a lot of injuries all season.
Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Evans, and Shaw are the defenders.
Before Christmas, United’s defence had its tenth central defensive partnership. The club is still having a terrible time with injuries, as Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire are all out. Ten Hag is depending on Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, and the young players at the club.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw will likely start at fullback against Forest. Wan-Bissaka has played for the team before and seems to have improved as a right-back. Shaw is likely the team’s best left-back, and they’ll be back to trying to win soon.
Because of the issues at the club right now, Varane and Evans will likely start in the middle of the defence against Forest. Willy Kambwala will likely come off the bench to help out and give Evans a change of legs later in the game. This will be needed for sure if Forest wants to win their cup final!
In the middle, Mainoo and Eriksen
Casemiro is still out with an injury, which hurts United’s centre as well. Christiansen, on the other hand, just got back from injury and started against Villa; he was one of the players who helped United turn things around and win 3-2.
For this game, Eriksen should start as long as he is fully fit. He just played a few days ago. But he will have to watch out for himself because getting tired, especially after recovering from knee surgery, will make it hard for him to stay fit for a while.
The Danish midfielder should start with Kobbie Mainoo. This could create a good partnership between youth and experience in the middle of the game, which is exactly what United needs right now. Hannibal, Daniel Gore, and Scott McTominay could all sit on the bench against Forest.
Garnacho, Fernandes, and Rashford are in the attacking midfield.
It should be the offensive line for United that scores goals and sets up others this season, but it hasn’t been. In the four games after beating Chelsea, United didn’t score a single goal, which is a bad sign for Ten Hag and his coaches.
But in the game against Villa, United came back from being down 2-0. Alejandro Garnacha scored twice to tie the game, and then Rasmus Hojlund scored the game-winning goal. United should put Garnacho on the right wing because he’s been better this season than Antony.
Bruno Fernandes should stay in the middle of the attacking three because he was a good player against Villa. He didn’t score or set up a goal, but he did help the team win. The star player was Marcus Rashford, who has been out of sorts this season. He should keep his spot on the left wing.
Move forward: Hojlund
On Christmas Day, Rasmus Hojlund scored his first goal in the Premier League for United. United came back from being down 2-0 to Villa to win 3-2. The Danish player had been trying for a long time to score his first Premier League goal, so it was a huge accomplishment.
The player will now focus on making a name for himself in the Premier League for the rest of the season, no longer upset about not being able to score. Behind him, the imagination needs to be as good as it was against Villa, but I haven’t seen it yet.
Still, this could be a turning point for United. It needs to be a turning point for this team to get going and make their mark in the Premier League for the rest of the season. Ten Hag will feel mostly good about United’s future, but he will have to make sure that this team keeps doing well.
