Diogo Jota appeared off the bench for already-qualified Portugal as they concluded the group stage of Euro 2024 with a 2-0 defeat by Georgia on Wednesday night.

The forward came on in the 75th minute for the Group F winners, who were beaten by goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze in Gelsenkirchen.

Jota had a pretty fine performance with 100% Accurate passes (9/9), 1 Chances created, 11 Touches, 2 Touches in opposition box

Minute 90+2, Conceicao made an uncomfortable cross, but Jota and Ramos both missed the goal in front of an open goal.

 

Ronaldo’s effort was not enough to bring a goal. In the match, Georgia defended very disciplined. Portugal’s number 7 even received a yellow card in the first half for a reactionary error, after he fell in the penalty area due to his shirt being pulled by a Georgia player.

The 39-year-old striker ended the group stage without scoring any goals, so he could not extend his record of 15 goals at EURO.

Furthermore, being the best third-placed team, Dominik Szoboszlai’s Hungary was not able to advance to the knockout stages.

Along with Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Jota, Liverpool will have seven players in the final 16.
