IGNOREDWhen England defeated Serbia, Jude Bellingham ‘ignored’ Phil Foden, as witnessed by fans.
England got off to a winning start thanks to a goal from Bellingham, who also received Man of the Match.
Thirteen minutes in, the 20-year-old headed home a deflected cross from Bukayo Saka, and many were impressed by the Real Madrid sensation’s self-assured and flamboyant style of play.
With Foden playing off the left to drift inside into pockets, he operated behind Harry Kane.
The midfielder for Manchester City faced criticism for his lack of impact on the match.
However, a few of his admirers jumped to his justification, asserting that there was a single time in which Bellingham chose not to locate the 24-year-old.
Bellingham had the ball along the left wing and played with Ivan Ilic in the 67th minute.
He made the decision to repeatedly outpace the Torino player, and after cutting left, he ultimately sent in a cross that Predrag Rajkovic comfortably collected.
But Foden was on the edge of the box, yelling for the ball to be cut back, as many people have noted on social media.
He has scored incredible goals from that range against teams like Everton, West Ham, Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Real Madrid.
And many fans believed that Bellingham’s assessment of his performance was unjust because she did not see him in the role.
“What exactly was Foden called up to England for?” one person wrote. That’s the main query I have. What’s the use of calling him up if he can stand there all alone and beg for the ball and still not receive it?”
One said to the other, “Jude was selfish on that spot.”
Three men are free right outside the box, according to another. Why is there a terrible cross after so many turns and twists? It is a team sport as opposed to an individual one.
“This is why I refuse to believe Foden had a BAD GAME last night,” a fourth person said. This is only one instance out of a hundred where he was present, but the players chose not to seek him out or were unable to locate him.”
“Example of Jude doing too much,” yelled a fifth. 95% intelligence, but if you want to get better, learn when to play to other people’s strengths and involve them in the game.”
While Foden “popped up really well in the pockets” and assisted the squad by “holding the ball” at crucial times as they closed out the victory, Southgate was pleased with Foden’s performance.
England’s next game is against Denmark in Frankfurt on Thursday.
