‘Fantastic leader’: Real Madrid rookie Kyialn Mbappé scores and assists two goals for France in first match; Camavinga entered the field in the 89th minute and had 5 accurate passes to seal the win against Luxembourg

The controversy surrounding Kylian Mbappe’s transfer to Real Madrid was temporarily forgotten as France’s “fantastic leader” dominated in a 3-0 friendly victory over Luxembourg on Wednesday.

Didier Deschamps praised the leadership qualities of star striker Mbappe, who celebrated the confirmation of his transfer to the Spanish capital with a goal and two assists at Stade Saint-Symphorien in Metz.

Randal Kolo Muani’s first-half opener was set up by Mbappe’s stunning run down the left flank, which also created space for Jonathan Clauss’ goal after the break.

Nevertheless, the France forward did not stop there, as he capped off a remarkable individual performance with a late goal, which was assisted by his former Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Bradley Barcola.

Les Bleus’ Euro 2024 opening against Austria was just 12 days away, and France head coach Deschamps was overjoyed with Mbappe’s triumphant international return.

Deschamps stated to the French channel TF1 that “He is an exceptional leader.” His body and mind were not accustomed to playing with such limited scope. He was lacking in energy.

“However, he developed the conviction that he would do whatever it took to atone for his frustration with PSG.” It was an excellent example during the week.

Before proceeding to the Euros, France will play a final warm-up friendly against Canada on Sunday. Their group also includes Poland and the Netherlands.

According to Deschamps, Luxembourg’s dominance was a positive indicator; however, there is still space for improvement.

“It is a good rehearsal for the work we have done,” he emphasised.

“We will not become overly enthusiastic; however, there are some intriguing developments.” I will rectify some errors in my positioning.

“But in the offensive animation, we had a lot of variety.”

Olivier Giroud, who was 37 years and 249 days old at the time, also became the oldest player in the annals of France during the victory. He entered the game as a second-half substitute.
