FINDING FORM: Mason Greenwood scores first goal for Marseille after £26.7 million transfer from Man Utd

Mason Greenwood earned his inaugural goal for Marseille, his most recent club.

This summer, the controversial athlete relocated from Manchester United to France for a reported £26.7 million.

In a pre-season exhibition against Pau FC, a French second-division team, he scored his first goal in Marseille colors.

Greenwood capitalized on a scramble in the area and lifted the ball over the opposition keeper.

Marseille successfully negotiated a deal with United to acquire Greenwood, despite facing stiff competition from several European clubs, including Lazio.

In early July, the striker returned to United’s training site to engage in discussions with the club’s executives in order to facilitate his departure from Old Trafford.

After a season-long loan with Getafe last season, he garnered the attention of numerous European clubs.

Greenwood was named the club’s Player of the Season after scoring ten goals in 36 appearances for the Spanish team.

Marseille supporters protested the transaction, but it was ultimately finalized.

A group of supporters initiated the #GreenwoodNotWelcome campaign in response to allegations of attempted rape and assault against the 22-year-old.

Last year, the Crown Prosecution Service dismissed all charges against Greenwood, who denied any misconduct.

The athlete will now be under the supervision of Roberto De Zerbi, who was previously the manager of Brighton and joined the club in June.

In 2019, Greenwood made his professional debut for the Red Devils and tallied 35 goals in 129 appearances.
