Morocco trounced Tanzania 3-0 in the opening match of their Africa Cup of Nations campaign, with Manchester United’s Sofyan Amrabat playing the full ninety minutes, including extra time.

Morocco’s win was set up by former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Romain Saiss, who gave his team the lead thirty minutes into the game.

Azzedine Ounahi extended the lead midway through the second half with a wonderfully played goal from just outside the box.

Youssef En-Nesyri’s third goal of the game gave Morocco the victory and guaranteed them all three points at the Stade de San Pédro stadium in Ivory Coast.

Amrabat, United’s best player, started with Selim Amallah at the center of the midfield.

Amrabat made 69 touches with the ball during his time on the field.

He completed 60 of the 63 passes he attempted, which is more than any other star to play 45 minutes or more in the game. His pass accuracy was an impressive 95%.

The Fiorentina loanee attempted to ping six long balls to his teammates. All of them succeeded in achieving their desired outcome.

Amrabat didn’t attempt to dribble or attempt a shot. His primary duty was to occupy a deep position and obstruct any potential breaks in the Morocco defense.

The 27-year-old had outstanding defensive play. He fought seven times on the ground and prevailed four times.

He took part in one air challenge and won.

Amrabat also managed three tackles.

Walid Regragui, the manager of Atlas Lions, stressed the importance of the national team staying humble and focusing only on their performances in his remarks after the game.

Morocco will want to build on their first victory when they meet DR Congo on Sunday. Without a question, Morocco is among the favorites to win the AFCON.
