SHINING STAR: Real Madrid are following Florian Wirtz very closely and seem well positioned for 2025, but Bayern will try everything to sign the player next summer

After winning their 36th La Liga title, Real Madrid were crowned Champions League champions for the 15th time in history with a 2-0 win over Dortmund in early June.

Despite this, many fans have pointed out that the club has been lacking a top-class centre-forward since Karim Benzema left in the summer of 2023. This has led to Los Blancos signing striker Kylian Mbappe after he left PSG.

And according to Marca, Real’s desire to build one of the best teams in football history doesn’t stop there. Talented German youngster Florian Wirtz is their next target. According to Marca, Real Madrid have reportedly agreed personal terms with Wirtz to sign him in 2025.

If the deal is completed, Wirtz would replace Jude Bellingham in the attacking midfield role, while the Englishman would be moved deeper into central midfield. This could be Real’s plan to replace Toni Kroos, who left the club after last season’s Champions League final.

At Real, Wirtz can play as an attacking midfielder so that Bellingham can drop back to play as a central midfielder.

With a reported fee of around €150 million, the deal would break the Bundesliga transfer record. The previous record was when Barca signed Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for €135 million in the summer of 2017.

Real believe Wirtz is worth that price after his breakthrough season with Beyer Leverkussen, helping the team win the Bundesliga and German Cup double.

The German youngster scored 18 goals and provided 20 assists in 49 appearances last season and was considered an indispensable part of Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten squad.

Furthermore, Wirtz is likely to play a key role in Germany’s EURO 2024 campaign as the hosts enter the tournament as one of the favourites to win the title.
