After Real Madrid and Manchester City played an exciting Champions League quarterfinal, Kevin De Bruyne was heard asking for Luka Modric’s shirt.
Before the game, everyone thought it would be fun, but not many people saw the drama that happened inside the new Bernabeu on Tuesday night.
After Andriy Lunin made a mistake in goal, Bernardo Silva scored the first goal for the guests inside two minutes.
Soon after, Real Madrid scored again when Ruben Dias scored an own goal. Soon after, Rodrygo, a forward from Brazil, made it 2-1 with 14 minutes left.
In Madrid, things got even worse when Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol scored two long-range goals in the second half to give City the lead again.
But with ten minutes left in normal time, Federico Valverde of Uruguay scored a goal that could be the best in the Champions League this season. This gave the home team a chance to fight in the second game.
Kevin De Bruyne went over to Real Madrid player Luka Modric after the game on Tuesday night. Modric is leaving Los Blancos at the end of the season.
The Belgian could be heard asking Modric for his shirt while they were chatting.
De Bruyne wasn’t in Manchester City’s lineup for the first game of the quarterfinal, which was a surprise. He didn’t play at all because he missed the team’s warm-up before the game.
Pep Guardiola talked about why he took out the good player before the game.
Telling TNT Sports, he said, “Vomit.” He is not well.
He also said, “I don’t know,” when asked if he could play. He was ready for the meeting, but when we got to the locker room, he started to throw up and felt sick, and he said, “I’m not ready.”
“Of course, it’s not good news, but it is what it is – another player is going to play and they are ready to play 90 minutes and everyone is going to help.”
At the end of the game, Guardiola would talk about one of City’s goalmakers in particular.
“In terms of how we play, we showed who we are in the second half,” he told TNT Sports. “It would have been hard to come back from down 2-1 in Manchester.” We scored two great goals instead, but fifteen minutes of defense in this stadium feels like forever. We’ll take 3-3.
“I told them to calm down and attack from the outside.” “Guys, it’s 45 minutes after 90 minutes,” I say. A lot of game needs to be played.
“Josko Gvardiol is here today, which is a good thing.” The way he played was great. We’re so glad to have him because he’s a great guy.
