After a long summer of transfer sagas, United finally agreed to pay Barcelona around £56 million for De Jong, but they still had to agree on personal terms.The deal never went through because De Jong stayed at Barcelona and United ended up signing Casemiro and Christian Eriksen instead. Last season, De Jong played 43 times for Barcelona in all events. So far this season, he has been a mainstay under Xavi Hernandez.

Sport, on the other hand, says that the 26-year-old was upset with how Barcelona tried to sell him, which hurt his relationship with the club’s board.
