This weekend’s big La Liga game is between two Catalan foes in the Top 4. On Sunday night at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium, Barcelona plays co-leaders Girona. Girona wants to show that they’re serious about making a run for the title for the rest of the season, while Barcelona needs a win to get back into the title fight.
One of the most important parts of Girona’s great season so far has been Aleix García. This season, the 26-year-old Spanish player has become one of the best midfielders in the country. He has done especially well since Oriol Romeu left for Barcelona in the summer and was given a bigger role on the team.
This year, García got better at defense and even better at passing the ball and coming up with new ideas. He is a big reason why Girona has such a great scoring record. He is now one of many Girona players who have been linked with moves away from the club because of their success. Barcelona has already been named as a possible destination for a player born in Catalonia who was coached by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
For Aleix, moving to Camp Nou would be the easiest thing in the world if the chance came up. Before the game against Barcelona, García told Spanish media that he grew up as a Barcelona fan and would love to play for the Blaugrana one day.
The problem for García is that Girona boss Míchel doesn’t like what he said. In a press conference this week, Míchel said that Aleix should focus on the team’s Copa del Rey game against Orihuela on Thursday instead of talking about how much he loves the other team on Sunday.
