When Real Madrid plays at Sevilla on Saturday night, Diego Alonso, who used to coach Uruguay, will be in charge for the first time for Sevilla.
The game will also be interesting because it will be the first time that Sergio Ramos has played against the team he played for most of his career, Real Madrid.
Since Ramos returned to Sevilla over the summer, the game on Saturday was always going to be marked in red on the schedule.
In the summer of 2005, the 37-year-old moved from Sevilla to Real Madrid, where he stayed until 2021.
He played 671 times for the first team and won five La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League wins.
Real Madrid played Paris Saint-Germain in the 2021–22 Champions League, but Ramos was hurt for both games of the last-16 match, which Madrid won in a miraculous comeback that was the first of three that season.
Without a question, Ramos will be the star of Saturday’s game as Madrid tries to stay on top of La Liga a week before their first “Clasico” of the season away at FC Barcelona.
Even though Nacho is still out, David Alaba seems to have recovered from his muscle problems and should be able to play in the middle of Madrid’s defense with Antonio Rudiger.
Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, and Fede Valverde came back late from playing in Uruguay vs. Brazil in a World Cup qualifier, so they only have one training session before the game. This is the biggest problem for coach Carlo Ancelotti, because Brahim Diaz and Joselu could start in attack.
Alonso told his players to be “brave” on Saturday, and with a Uruguayan in charge and Ramos in defense, Sevilla is likely to go all out in what could be a rough game.
