Serbia was vanquished by England 1-0 in the opening match of Group C of the Euro 2024 tournament on June 17. Jude Bellingham scored for England.
The England team immediately advanced to initiate an attack in the first minute. At one juncture, they compelled all 11 Serbian players on the pitch to withdraw into their own half.
The opponent’s crowded defence was rendered unsupportable by England’s incessant passing. The “three lions” scored the opening goal in the 13th minute. Bukayo Saka crossed into the penalty area after escaping down the right flank. The ball was headed into Serbia’s net by Jude Bellingham, who raced in from behind.
Despite having scored a goal, England maintained its consistent playing approach. They did not exceed the game’s tempo, but they nevertheless generated hazardous opportunities.
The ball was sent across the opponent’s goal on at least two occasions by their passes from the right wing, but no one was able to generate a touch. In the interim, Serbia is nearly at a standstill in its implementation of the game.
Having a dominant position in the first half, England completely changed in the second half. The players played sporadically, often losing the ball under Serbia’s pressure. Meanwhile, the attackers almost lost contact and could not create dangerous plays.
This is what helped the Serbian team rise. But their strikers lack the necessary accuracy.
For England, their only chance in the second half was Harry Kane’s header hitting the crossbar in the 77th minute. Otherwise, they did not make any further impressions.
Despite not playing too impressively, England still maintained a 1-0 score against Serbia on the opening day of Euro 2024.
