Lee Carsley’s tenure as England’s interim manager came to an end on Sunday at Wembley.
“Many thanks to Lee and his staff for their work in these last few camps,” Bellingham wrote in his statement. I’m so thankful that an England shirt brought back my smile!
After Gareth Southgate left, Carsley was temporarily promoted from his position with the Under-21s in August and given command of the Three Lions senior team.
In all, he managed six Nations League games and produced five victories. The lone bad outcome for Carsley was a 2-1 loss to Greece at home in October. But England’s 3-0 victory in Athens on Thursday made up for that defeat.

Before speaking with the incoming England manager, Carsley will now gather a comprehensive dossier for Tuchel based on his six games as manager.
Additionally, Carsley believes the young players he has scouted will excel for the German national team because he has faith in their ability, having worked with many of them at the Under-21 level in the past.
“We talked about not only getting promoted from the Nations League but possibly expanding the pool of players Thomas has to choose from,” Carsley said after Sunday’s game.
Being a member of the March squad is now a task for the players who took part in the previous three camps. Gaining caps is a significant accomplishment and a testament to their abilities, and many of them have done England and themselves a great benefit. I am really proud of several of them.
Thomas has the attributes of a top-tier coach with a track record of accomplishment, which is crucial for this role. We’ve been able to draw in more people, which is an extra bonus. As the next squad selection draws near, I can practically feel the pressure mounting. There are amazing things to come.

On Sunday night, Bellingham sent Carsley a 25-word message on Instagram.
“With some of these players, it’s not a gamble; they are great players who want to conquer any obstacle, and they have an expectation of winning at the Under-21s.”
“When you are in a position you are not used to, you always learn a lot about yourself, and the most satisfying thing is the younger players coming through, many of whom have now seen themselves wearing an England shirt.”
“I’m trying to put together, with the rest of the staff, a debrief on all three camps,” Carsley added to his dossier.
After putting up a document, I hope to meet with him and share our findings and thoughts. As U21 employees, it is our responsibility to assist the senior management.
