The defender for Manchester United, Harry Maguire, gave a good talk after the game after being named Player of the Match for his performance against the worst team in the league, Sheffield United.
The England player has had a tough year because he hasn’t been able to play much for the first team since Erik ten Hag took over in May of last year.
And because Maguire fell behind players like Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, and Raphael Varane in the Old Trafford pecking order, he was not made captain. Maguire was obviously angry about this.
During the summer, West Ham and Aston Villa were said to be interested in signing him, but he refused to give up his spot, even though there was a lot of talk about his future.
After having such a rough patch, though, it looks like the 30-year-old is getting back to form.
Maguire made his first Premier League start for United against Brentford on October 7. United went on to win the game thanks to two late goals from Scott McTominay.
Ten Hag also put Maguire in the starting lineup for Saturday night’s game against Sheffield United.
The center back did a good job at Bramall Lane for long stretches. He cleared the ball three times, blocked three times, and completed 82% of his passes.
After the game was over, Maguire and Dalot, who scored the goal, were both given awards for their hard work. You can see how important the award was.
Erik ten Hag had a lot of nice things to say about Maguire after he won Player of the Match.
To Sky Sports after the game, he said, “I think it was deserved, and he played a very good game.” Besides being funny, he was a great football player who knew how to read the game very well. I am pleased with how he came through this.
Ten Hag said, “We are happy with the win.” “The plan was to find a way to win.” We didn’t play our best in the first half, and after going ahead 1-0, we gave up a goal too fast.
“We played better in the second half and scored a great goal to win.”
The Sheffield team played with a lot of energy and a slightly different method than what we thought they would. We need to adapt faster, read that, take control of the game faster, and be better organized.
What did you think of Maguire’s game against Sheffield United? Does he deserve to play more?
