Chelsea and Napoli have agreed to sell Romelu Lukaku after having good talks on Friday.
This week, good talks took place, and the 31-year-old Belgian, who is part of the Blues’ “bomb squad” and is for sale, could soon be back with his old head coach Antonio Conte.
The Italian team has agreed to pay £26 million plus an extra £12 million for the 31-year-old player. He will sign a three-year deal to play for Conte again.
After talks in London, everyone was ready to finish the deal, which was said to be closer than ever to being reached.
Lukaku will play for a new Serie A team after being on loan in Italy for the last two seasons. In 2022–23, he played for Inter Milan. In 2023–24, he played for Roma.
Chelsea paid Inter £97.5 million to get Lukaku in August 2021. In the 2021–22 season, he got 15 goals in 44 games. Since May 2022, he hasn’t played for Stamford Bridge.
This summer, Chelsea would rather sell Lukaku for good than let him go on another loan, and Conte wants to work with him again after they worked together at Inter.
Last weekend, Napoli lost 3-0 to Verona to start the season.
This summer, Chelsea was also very interested in Victor Osimhen of Napoli. They are still looking for a new striker.
After their Conference League win over Servette on Thursday, head coach Enzo Maresca said, “If we have the chance to bring in a nine that can help us and make the difference, then we are going to try.”
Once Lukaku’s sale is official, Chelsea is likely to make their move for Osimhen even stronger.
But Chelsea wants to get rid of a lot of other players before the trade window closes.
This custodian, Kepa Arrizabalaga, cost £72 million and makes about £200,000 a week. For a loan to work, the 29-year-old would have to extend his deal for at least another year but get paid less.
It looks like Djordje Petrovic, another Chelsea custodian, has turned down the chance to move to Strasbourg.
Chelsea is also interested in Murillo, a defender for Nottingham Forest, if Trevoh Chalobah, Axel Disasi, and Benoit Badiashile all leave.
Maresca said about selling players, “The transfer window is still open for one week, and I hope we can find solutions for all of them.”
“Everyone is happy when you find answers.” You can make things worse when you can’t find an answer.
