Manchester United agreed to pay Sporting Lisbon £8.3 million to let RUBEN AMORIM leave, so he could become the new boss by Sunday.

The Portuguese coach and three members of his backroom staff are set to fly to Manchester for early talks, just two days after Erik ten Hag was fired.

Jose Mourinho, who used to manage Manchester United, and Pep Guardiola, who manages Manchester City, have both backed Amorim, who is 39 years old and has only been a coach for five years. 

The news outlet Sporting revealed yesterday that Manchester United wants to hire coach Ruben Amorim and is ready to pay the 10 million euro release clause.

Ten Hag’s No. 2 Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge for tonight’s Carabao Cup game at home against Leicester.

To be fair, though, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is thought to want Amorim to be in charge for Sunday’s Premier League game at Old Trafford against Chelsea. 

But when he talked to reporters after Sporting’s 3-1 win over Nacional last night, the highly sought-after coach wouldn’t say if he would join United.

He wouldn’t say for sure if it was his “farewell game” as manager of Sporting, but he did say, “Manchester United is interested.” But I get to choose. We’re not going to make any noise until everything is clear.

“I don’t have anything useful to say.” I will do anything I want, just like I always have.

“My contract is between me and Sporting, so I’m not going to talk about it.” The boss and the worker agree to all the terms and conditions of the contract. I can say that the statement has all the information that is needed.

“I’m not going to promise anything.” I am sure that I will train tomorrow and get ready for the game on Friday against Estrela da Amadora.

“Let’s wait a little longer so I can explain everything I need to. After that, everything will be very clear.”

“It’s my choice, and I’ll tell them everything, so we have to wait.”

He led Sporting to the Portuguese title last year, and his team has won all nine of their league games so far this year.

From 2016 to 2018, Mourinho was the manager of Manchester United. He said that the Sporting manager would be able to handle a move to the Premier League, saying that he could manage “in any club.”

The Unique One said, “I like him as a person and as a coach.”

“He’s in a good enough shape to coach in any league and for any club.”

In 2018, Amorim did an internship with Mourinho at United before taking over as manager of small Lisbon club Casa Pia that same year.

The defender, who retired in 2016, joined Sporting in 2020 after doing well at Braga.

Ten Hag was fired on Monday morning, with the team currently 14th in the Premier League.

Guardiola also said nice things about Amorim and asked, “Why is it too quick?” I began at Barcelona when I was 37 years old. That’s why knowledge is wisdom.

“Your age doesn’t matter if you can do it.” Lamine Yamal could not play football at age 17 if that was a reason.

Next week, Guardiola’s team was going to play Amorim’s Sporting in the Champions League. He also said, “If Manchester United are thinking about him, it’s because he’s a good manager.”
